We have gathered links to resources within the University of Southampton and University Hospital Southampton to support your research.

Biomedical Imaging Unit

The BIU provides research and diagnostic services in high quality microscopy. They are experts in imaging, correlative imaging, 3D design and printing, and image analysis.

Close-up of a sagittally sectioned, plastic anatomical model of the human brain's right hemisphere, showing detailed internal structures and different areas accentuated by various colours which varies from light beige, pink, to dark purple.

Brain Archive Information Network

BRAIN UK makes the extensive NHS Neuropathology archives available internationally. They provide access to biopsy and post-mortem tissue from a wide range of neurological disorders.

Clinical Samples for Patient Benefit

This initiative advises on, and enables release of, consented excess pathological tissue for research purposes. For more information, please contact researchhistology@uhs.nhs.uk or Ruth Challis ruth.challis@uhs.nhs.uk.

Flow Cytometry Facility

Flow Cytometry can rapidly analyse and sort millions of cells. It allows scientists to determine different cell populations within a sample. Analysis of cell characteristics show how cells change in different conditions.

Histochemistry Research Unit

The HRU processes cells and tissue samples into a range of mediums, allowing sectioning and staining techniques. They have extensive experience in histopathology for clinical trials.

In the foreground, a large machine with two metallic cylindrical apparatus, is visible on the left, with multiple cables and components attached to its body. The equipment is mounted on a black and yellow supporting rail with various adjustment knobs and mechanisms.

µ-VIS X-ray Imaging Centre

µ-VIS combines state-of-the-art equipment, experience, and expertise. It is a strategic investment in high resolution X-ray tomographic imaging, offering a unique user experience for advanced 3D imaging.

3D X-ray Histology Facility

Specialising in non-destructive 3D imaging workflows using X-ray microfocus Computed Tomography, this facility is equipped for whole-block imaging. It integrates correlative imaging techniques.
